| In the early 1960's, Seattle's Historic Pike Place Market was in grave danger of becoming just another "victim of progress." Badly in need of repairs, and being hungrily eyed by developers, the Market was slated for demolition. Many thought of the old Market as the very heart and soul of the city. A group of citizens, lead by Victor Steinbrueck, waged a successful battle to save the market and raise funds for it's preservation. Among those involved were several Seattle Art groups.A dozen of those artists involved, decided to open a small gallery amid the produce farmers, fish markets and strange and wonderful shops. Thus, in 1965, began the story of the Art Stall Gallery. |
