Seattle : Travel & Leisure : The Bacon Mansion
Passing through the gates of the Bacon Mansion, guests view the stained glass red and white shields or emblem of the mansion. Built in 1909 by Cecil Bacon on Seattle's Capitol Hill, this classical Edwardian style Tudor, shows not only the trademark family crest but demonstrates a fine preservation of original woods, a three thousand piece crystal chandelier, marble fireplaces and a treasured library. Located in the Historical Harvard-Belmont Landmark District, most of the Mansion's original floor-plan and exterior has been retained. In 1984 a great fire spread through the Mansion, burning sixty percent of the interior. The house's massive walls, however, spared the glass and wood pocket doors found in the "day rooms". Reopening in 1985 as The Broadway Guest House; this exceptional bed and breakfast now retains the namesake of its builder, The Bacon Mansion.
